Flipboard

Our podcast about the fediverse, Dot Social, is one today! 🎉 It’s been such an honor to host the builders of the social web on this show and to learn from them. We have one more episode coming up in 2024 (read the blogpost to find out who @mike will be chatting with) then rest, then back at it in 2025.

Who do you think @mike should interview next year? We're all ears 👂

@Flipboard I'd suggest his namesake, @Mike Macgirvin ?️, creator of more Fediverse protocols and server applications than anyone, including the Nomad protocol as well as Friendica, Hubzilla, (streams) and Forte, and original inventor of nomadic identity. But I'm not sure if he wants to be interviewed, not to mention he's living down under.

@jupiter_rowland Great suggestion! We'd love to hear from @mikedev.

@Flipboard @mike Maybe the creators of peertube/pixelfed/lemmy?

@Flipboard @mike what about @_elena to get the perspective of someone who has recently embraced the fediverse and begun advocating for it.

@Flipboard @mike Thanks for this excellent podcast. I'd love to hear an interview with @cwebber about her work on ActivityPub and the @spritelyinst !

@jarulf @mike @timbl Wow — we had no idea he was on here!

@Flipboard @mike @timbl nor did I, I just checked.
But I'm pretty sure he has ideas about all this. What with #Pods, #Solid and other things I don't really understand.

@Flipboard @mike
You could interview @jeswr - Jesse is now running #Solid community support at @ODIHQ - we need to merge the energies of #Solid with the rest of the #Fediverse #DotSocial #Federation #ActivityPub #OpenSocial #OpenSocialWeb #SocialWeb #Threads #Bluesky #Solid cc: #RSS blogs and podcasts #Matrix #ActivitPods

I strongly agree with @timbl that we need to merge the energy of #Solid with the rest of the #Fediverse. Would be very happy to do an interview @mike .

@jeswr @timbl @mike Hi all! I'm the producer of Dot Social and really intrigued by this idea. Thanks for suggesting it, Tim. Jesse, may I book some time with you to do some initial recon first?

Absolutely @miaq - I've sent a private mention to schedule a time!

@timbl @Flipboard @mike @jeswr @ODIHQ I created a Mastodon-client with a "semantic"-feed, which basically means that queries are send to hashtags and can then be answered by semantic web bots. And to make increase the likeliness that somebody will also run these semantic bots, the client suggests to the user to also post data-insert-queries to the feed, which the semantic bots can use to grow their data bases.

@timbl @Flipboard @mike @jeswr @ODIHQ But I'm glad to hear that others are working on this, too!

@bluebbberry

I just had a glance at your codebases - cool work!

The Solid Community does most of its collaborative work in matrix.to/#/#solid_project:mat and forum.solidproject.org. ActivityPods (Solid + AP) do most of their collaborative work in matrix.to/#/#activitypods:matr

I'd encourage you to introduce yourself and your work in those channels :)

@jeswr Thanks! I will definitely check it out :)

@Flipboard @mike

Would be interesting to hear @cwebber as she's one of the creators of the Fediverse's ActivityPub and runs @spritely

If you haven't already, @Framasoft have made a huge contribution to the Fediverse and FOSS in General.

@Chocobozzz is lead dev on PeerTube at Framasoft and does absolutely amazing work.

Also maybe @dansup who does Pixelfed etc? Another long-time dev on the Fediverse who has been building this place for years.

Also, if you're interviewing about wider range of tech topics like AI would highly recommend @timnitGebru and/or @emilymbender

@flipboard@flipboard.social congrats! 2024 was huge for the fediverse, really looking forward to what 2025 will bring.

@julian Yes — we couldn't have imagined all the things that happened in 2024 this time last year!

@Flipboard @mike No suggestions but have learned so much listening to this podcast this year, thanks for doing it.
