Arrived today - the surprising (in a very good way), Turin Grinder SK40 model. It's hard to believe this all metal, 40mm conical burr, single dose, bellows equipped, torque-ey, quiet grinder is around $200. It's smaller than I thought too - pictured next to the diminutive Lagom Mini for comparison.

We're doing a feature on $200 grinders this fall on CoffeeGeek. Both the SD40 and SK40 from Turin are in that matchup.

@coffeegeek As we see more grinders flowing into this price point, what is your assessment of the long term durability and repairability of the machines? I've always appreciated Baratza's commitment to long term repairability but haven't had a similar sense from other manufacturers.

@bbrooking Good Q.

In some ways, these new grinders are a lot simpler than Baratza or Breville or OXO grinders in the same price point; less "brains". less microswitches, less sensors, less... everything. Many are direct DC, single gear devices, with easy burr access and the Turin grinders, for eg, have a standard "trip fuse" that can be replaced if it overheats / stalls out.

So end user could repair, or a local shop could in many cases.
