Let's think about HDMI 2.2 for a moment.

What brings to the table that DisplayPort and DP over USB-C and Thunderbolt 5 already don't do?

HDMI is going to die for a free implementation that upgraded quickly, and I can bet next Graphic Cards will have only DisplayPort and DP over USB4 connectors. HDMI on monitors is just for legacy purposes.

The reason today's electronic computers seem benign is that the true electronic revolution has not happened yet. Our current phase of computerization is still akin to the stage of history when muscle tasks were moving from humans to animals. The tasks being reassigned from individual human minds to electronic circuits still retain all their old human structure and scale.

Honestly, I'm not hyped up by this new connector, at all.

HDMI 2.2 looks like what they had to release in 2020. At this point all modern monitors use DisplayPort 2.1 (80Gbps), or even USB-C with Power Delivery.

If HDMI wants a chance, then they should bring HDMI over USB-C, making HDMI adoption in monitors relevant.

In 1958, renowned photographer Berenice Abbott captured a pivotal moment in the history of #technology—an engineer carefully wiring one of IBM's early #computers. The image reflects the meticulous, hands-on nature of computing in its infancy, a time when computers were massive machines requiring intricate manual labor to operate. The engineer’s focused expression and the complex wiring highlight the early stages of a technological revolution that would transform industries and society.
