I just got an email on a mailing list, from a rabbi who I generally respect. at least enough that while I'm going to drag their email out I'm not going to name then directly.</p><p>it starts out with a number then continues, "souls perished that day in the worst attack against Jews since the Holocaust."</p><p>and while yes, the attack on Nova festival was tragic, and I'd the worst, it fails to mention <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Gaza" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gaza</span></a>, <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Lebanon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Lebanon</span></a>, <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Palestine" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Palestine</span></a>, or the <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/WestBank" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WestBank</span></a> even once.</p><p>if we don't mention it then we don't have to think about it.</p><p>if that was, in fact, the "worst attack on Jews since the <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Holocaust" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Holocaust</span></a>" then the ensuing conflict is the worst terrorisation of the Palestinian people since the <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Nakba" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Nakba</span></a>, and indeed many people have been calling it <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Nakba2" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Nakba2</span></a>.</p><p>this was not the only limp and frankly pathetic attempt at an email to commemorate the attack last year, and they've all been the same. the reasoning justifies the means. there is no war happening (there is no war in Ba Sing Se (I'm sure I'm not the first one to have used that in this context but I don't remember whom to cite that they might get credit)).</p><p>and they unilaterally refuse to condemn the Israeli government and military industrial complex, and they do not say <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/NotInMyName" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NotInMyName</span></a> and <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/NeverAgain" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NeverAgain</span></a>.</p><p>so I'm torn, today and every day, at where do I, as an <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/AntizionistJew" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AntizionistJew</span></a> and a rabbinical student, look for guidance and leadership.</p>
