Dan<p>Test 2: Turning off internet connection on my Android for a couple minutes: I still get messages on my new server.</p><p>Good for convenience: I get my old notifications if my phone goes offline.</p><p>Bad for privacy? Because what if my phone disappeared forever and I forgot about <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ntfy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ntfy</span></a> ? Would the new server get new data forever? Or are Mastodon, Matrix, etc supposed to eventually figure out that they should abandon a server if a phone doesn't connect for a few days?</p>
Dan<p>Ran a couple interesting tests with <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ntfy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ntfy</span></a>. I was curious how it handles leaving a server. I have two ntfy servers running now.</p><p>Test 1: Switching my Android ntfy app and UnifiedPush subscriptions from one server to the other: I only get messages on the new server.</p><p>Good for privacy. Ireri<p>Holaa. <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ntfy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ntfy</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/fluffychat" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fluffychat</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/techhelp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>techhelp</span></a></p>

I run <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Megalodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Megalodon</span></a> on another phone, push Nots work fine. I have 2 <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Mastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Mastodon</span></a> accts in both apps. </p><p>2ndary issue: my other acct (on lor.sh) has a permanent mark as read icon in the app notifications panel which prevents the number of new Nots showing on the icon in the bottom menu. This is in both apps (different phones). </p><p>Both issues began to happen after I installed <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ntfy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ntfy</span></a> to test <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Fedilab" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Fedilab</span></a> Nots. I have uninstalled both.</p>
Gregarious<p>Hmm, this is an interesting beast... Playing with something called FydeOS &amp; was able to install F-Droid, NTFY + Tusky. Not exactly sure how useful this will be in the long run, as it's essentially a version of ChromiumOS that includes Android app support (as contrasted with ChromeOS Flex, which doesn't offer the option of using Android apps at all). Interesting experiment, especially if you have an older device gathering dust in a drawer or on a shelf somewhere. <a href="https://fydeos.io" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">fydeos.io</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> <a href="https://dragonscave.space/tags/ChromiumOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ChromiumOS</span></a> <a href="https://dragonscave.space/tags/Android" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Android</span></a> <a href="https://dragonscave.space/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://dragonscave.space/tags/FDroid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FDroid</span></a> <a href="https://dragonscave.space/tags/NTFY" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NTFY</span></a> <a href="https://dragonscave.space/tags/Tusky" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Tusky</span></a> <a href="https://dragonscave.space/tags/Experiments" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Experiments</span></a> Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention that it appears to be fairly accessibile, so a potential option for my fellow blind folks... <a href="https://dragonscave.space/tags/A11Y" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>A11Y</span></a> <a href="https://dragonscave.space/tags/Accessibility" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Accessibility</span></a> <a href="https://dragonscave.space/tags/Blind" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Blind</span></a></p>

I'm also learning about ntfy as I go. But, in principle it works; I am successfully using it right now for Tusky.</p><p>I'd love to get feedback from anyone familiar with ntfy who is interested in seeing it on a new platform.</p>
