The one thing I gotta mention about this #seaweedfs thing is this volume size limit thing. Do you make it bigger, do you make it smaller. I fucked up and now I can't get the volumes the right size. It's sort of unforgiving. So far my linux ISO's are working pretty good on a object store type system. rclone does require some tuning to make it work and the cache not eat up everything.

Finally got around to migrating my home server to #Proxmox, and chucking my docker containers in a VM while migrating to running everything in #Kubernetes.

...only to be reminded that the idiot who built my home server (me) only bothered getting 16GB of RAM. Doesn't really stop any of my plans, but feels a bit silly to have a Proxmox machine so limited by RAM.

Due to an ongoing legal dispute over trademark infringement, #Hoarder was forced to change its name.

My go-to tool for collecting all kinds of things from the web is now known as #Karakeep.

I wish Mohamed Bassem all the best for the upcoming legal dispute.

lemmy.klein.ruhrHoarder is rebranding to Karakeep - r/selfhosted - klein.ruhr | LemmyCopied from redlib/r/selfhosted: > Hoarder is rebranding to Karakeep > >As you might know from my previous post [https://redlib.kylrth.com/r/selfhosted/comments/1i29pi1/hoarder_the_name_is_being_stolen_from_me/], Hoarder (github link [https://github.com/hoarder-app/hoarder]) has been caught up in an ongoing trademark dispute. Since the legal process is still unresolved, I’ll have to save the full story for another time. For now, I’ve decided that the best path forward is to rebrand. > >Starting today, Hoarder is rebranding to Karakeep! > >The name Karakeep is inspired by the Arabic word “كراكيب” (karakeeb), a colloquial term commonly used to refer to miscellaneous clutter, odds and ends, or items that may seem disorganized but often hold personal value or hidden usefulness. It evokes the image of a messy drawer or forgotten box, full of stuff you can’t quite throw away—because somehow, it matters (or more likely, because you’re a hoarder!). > >Over the next couple of weeks, things will start getting renamed to Karakeep [https://karakeep.app/] (the repo, apps, extensions, etc). hoarder.app will soon also begin redirecting to our new domain: karakeep.app. > >I took pride in coming up with “hoarder” as the name for the project. I’ve spent months searching for a different name, but nothing felt as good as hoarder was. But it’s time to move on. I’m incredibly grateful for the support this community has shown throughout the whole thing. Hopefully, I can now focus my time and energy on what matters: building Karakeep. > >It goes without saying, but please refrain from contacting the other party in any way, shape, or form. https://redlib.kylrth.com/r/selfhosted/comments/1js667o/hoarder_is_rebranding_to_karakeep/ [https://redlib.kylrth.com/r/selfhosted/comments/1js667o/hoarder_is_rebranding_to_karakeep/]

I've noticed that a lot of people that I've talked to on the subject of backups, including in response to this comment, do not back up their TV and movies. Which makes sense considering how much storage those things tend to take up. It just seems like a shame to be risking all of it to disk failure.

Backing all of that up to something like Backblaze would be incredibly expensive, and even purchasing an additional set of drives just for backups would be quite a pain. There doesn't seem to be a great solution other than "just replace it all when your disks fail." Either that, or spend the money.

(I'm set on everything else. Documents and photos are in hosted cloud storage, and my music will always be in at least one other place.)

Yay! I finally got 6 drives connected to the HP Z420 for my TrueNAS build. Seems there are extra SATA ports on the motherboard that are not used or something? I found the two "hidden" ones and got all the drives to show up.

This was a pain but I am past it now and can move on to getting all drives into place.

I believe I've got four 4TB drives to stick into it, just debating if I should make one a spare right away or not. I could use an old 6TB drive as the spare.

Just transferred over 1,000 #AppleNotes to #joplin ✅
Here are my takeaways:
💡 The app Exporter (free) creates surprisingly useful exports
📥 Importing into Joplin using the "Markdown Directory" option works well and preserves the notebook tree structure
🕵🏻‍♂️ A manual check of each note is necessary if handwritten content, images, or PDFs were used — some items were missing, and I couldn’t identify a consistent pattern

I thought that the fan on my server's hard drives was kaput, but in fact what was happening is that its protection grid that I 3D printed was too thin and bent, stopping the fan spinning.

New (and more resistant) printed grid and the result is 11 ºC less on the hottest disk.

I hope I have extended its life a little longer.

Contrary to common practice, having your own Forgejo instance which is hosted on a server in your own basement with private repositories means that you can commit secrets to your dotfiles repositories.

Contrary to common belief, your dotfiles are far from being just in your home directory. They are scattered in many locations on your many devices which sum up the investment you have put into your tooling.

A Forgejo private orga works great for that...

Random #SelfHosting tip for any who might be interested:

If you use #GetSSL to get your #LetsEncrypt certs, you'll get four files:

* The key (example.com.key)
* The domain cert (example.com.crt)
* The CA cert (chain.crt)
* The "full chain" cert (fullchain.crt)

Make sure to use the full chain cert, *not* the domain cert, when setting up your server. Otherwise some services will give you "unknown authority" errors.
