Bjarne Oldrup<p>Ffs how I hate Facebook. For the 4th time in 6 months, my mum has succumbed to some sleazy salesman who made her sign up for yet another electricity company. You don't remember entering the raffle but the kind old woman, Gwendolyn, on the phone assured you you had. How else would she have your details? You had been hesitant at first but she explained everything to you - the history of the island and its castle - all off-grid except for one ancient landline in the kitchen. How it was used by her family as private hunting grounds, the transportation there by ferry and bringing supplies for the weekend, - by the end it was like talking to an old friend and you just couldn't say no. <br>
The crossing there was interesting. Was it seasickness or was the uneasy feeling coming from the ferryman? He wouldn't look you in the eye and spent all his time muttering under his breath, ignoring you. Was he praying? "Bring another one"? Huh?<br>
At least the castle was comfortable. Exploring the island, finally having some peace and quiet after all these hard months was much needed. <br>
Sunday evening, the landline rings. <br>
"I'm sorry dear but the ferry isn't coming for a while"<br>
You inquire if that means a few hours or tomorrow.<br>
"... I'm sorry dear but the ferry isn't coming." <br>
You are confused.<br>
"We still use it as hunting grounds, you know."<br>

A while ago, I shared a post about living online (Trying to live online). And I keep thinking about it... I don't have too many friends, but the ones I have, I consider to be very good ones! 💜 And then, there is my phone, where all my "pocket friends" are. People that I consider friends, people that I care about, people that I'll probably never meet... My online friends. 🌹
I don't have a partner. I live with Arwen, which is nice, but it's definitely different than living with a person. And while I enjoy being on my own, doing my own things, living my own life... Sometimes I can feel alone, lonely even (Not lonely, but alone…, and I miss someone to share my life with. And I guess that's where all my social media comes in. I'm trying to make a difference to this world, I'm trying to "matter" in a way, and my brain tells me that I should do that by sharing stuff online.

Across the past few years, I've made shots like this; of single leaves roaming around. As I always say, I have some soft spot for leaves roaming alone. When I see one, I don't try to move it apart or touch it in any way - I just shoot it as it is in place.<br>
For this shot, for example, there was a number of leaves around and I made some shots without paying attention to them and they were there in the frame. I didn't touch anything (I don't feel easy changing the scene just to take a picture of it, as I consider it an alteration of reality, or of a point in time, if you will). Thus, I re-framed and got closer until I had this leaf isolated from the rest. The rest is a story of processing of course (and it was done in HDR).<br>
With this shot, my stroll that day, March 11th, was over. I'm checking my stock, and seems I've done some "test" long exposures but they were all failures, unfortunately, so probably I will go back to post from the archive as usual (unless a miracle happens and I might make some shots out of no where, overcoming my block!).<br>

From your window you see the street lamp across the road is flickering. Bit weird. You've never seen it do that before. Wait... You see a figure. Is that a person? No. It's just the flickering. No, hold on, it is a person. They'll catch their death out there! It's so cold. Wait, those "Missing" posters around the neighbourhood for that kid - What if it's him? You have to go out and check. God, it's been days, he might be hurt! You walk briskly towards the street lamp. The air is freezing. You get closer "Hey! Are you okay?" "Hello! Do you need any help?". The figure turns towards you.
