I am loathe to link to something on Substack, but given how little good news we read nowadays I wanted to share this one: 17 Montana Republicans Cross Party Lines, Defeat Anti-Trans Bill After Nonbinary Rep's Speech

Here's the first paragraph (which I split in half), so you don't need to click through:

"On Tuesday, Montana’s House considered Senate Bill 164, legislation that would classify gender-affirming care for transgender youth as felony child endangerment. The bill would not only target doctors and nurses, but also parents—including those merely passing through the state.

"Though the vote was expected to be close, a powerful floor speech from Representative SJ Howell prompted a wave of Republican defections. The bill was defeated 40–58, becoming one of several anti-trans proposals to fail this year following strong speeches by Montana’s transgender and nonbinary lawmakers."

Being an ally to trans and nonbinary people in your life means refraining from making assumptions about people’s gender in general. You can’t tell someone’s gender by looking at them. Be aware of the expectations you project onto others based on how you perceive gender, and choose to validate people’s experiences.

update: We've received $300 of donations! This might not seem like a big milestone to some, but this is life changing for me! Thank you all so very much for your kindness!! I almost have enough to pay one of the remaining school fees now! I can't thank everyone who has donated or shared enough. Thank you for helping me make my dreams come true!!

Hi, I'm Cey. I'm trans️‍🏳️‍⚧️ and stuck in a very controlling and abusive household. I recently got accepted into my dream college (NIU), and this might be my only good shot at moving out and building a better life for myself and my support dog. College fees are more than I had anticipated, and I've spent all of my savings just on solidifying my spot in the school. I'm struggling a lot to get financial aid (my parents refused to fill out the FAFSA, because they don't want me to leave). I'm doing everything in my power to make this work out, but I can't afford the fees, let alone tuition, housing, and basic necessities. I'll need to leave for school on July 30th, if everything works out. I'm doing everything I can to try to get a job and save up before I have to leave, but I haven't been able to land a position yet. Due to my situation and environment, I'm at a very high risk of becoming homeless. I'm also in southern USA, which is very hostile for trans people. Being able to go to a safe state, have a safe place to sleep, be able to further my education, and make my dreams of a better life come true would be incredible. Anything at all helps immensely, and I will be eternally grateful! Just sharing helps! Thank you so much for your time and for helping me get to safety!

To anyone who shares or supports: I cannot thank you enough! You're helping me to get out of a situation that I wasn't sure I ever would. You're helping me chase my dreams and change my life for the better. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
