A couple of parked delivery worker bicycles, one in front of the other, stand on a city sidewalk among railings and poles. The front bike has handlebar muffs wrapped in plastic bags and a seat wrapped in red plastic that catches the light. Backlit by bright sunlight, the bike frames and wheels appear dark while casting sharp shadows on the foreground, almost like mirror doubles of their silhouettes.

A wide, near-empty Brooklyn sidewalk at evening, after a light rain. In the center of the frame, a distant figure rides a bicycle towards the camera. The sky, glimpsed between trees and a building, is a deepening blue, but red light predominates: Japanese lanterns hung in front of a restaurant cast a red-orange glow on the damp sidewalk and on the leaves of curbside trees; a red traffic light, and red pedestrian “Don’t Walk” signs on two consecutive blocks, shine in the distance. Backlit by a streetlight, the nearest tree also casts a dappled shadow on the sidewalk.

Another for #MonochromeMonday, with color comparison. This is Anna Lapwood standing beside the pipe organ at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola in NYC. I’d wanted to see her in concert since discovering videos of her playing the organ at the Royal Albert Hall, and she did not disappoint. A big-hearted artist with sublime and thunderous music at her fingertips (and toes). See her if you can!
