Lunokhod 2 took several panoramas on the lander and near it. I posted a link to an online collection of those images. Between them they provided a full 360 view of the horizon. The long narrow images don't lend themselves to full landing site mapping and this is the only case I have found where a full horizon is visible. Here it is with a map to help match features. This resolved problems i had with imagined image reversal in the past. #maps #moon #luna21 #lunokhod2

At the top of this image is a map of Le Monnier crater, landing site of Luna 21. At the bottom is a full view of the horizon from the landing site, projected into a circle so azimuths to features on the map match the image. The images were taken from several different sites so their foregrounds don't match and have been removed.

Is there any tool – maybe in Inkscape or Gimp, but a standalone tool is fine too – for aligning several layers which mostly have the same lines on them?

I've taken several screenshots of maps of the same area, but on different websites, so they are not perfectly aligned. I would like them to be. Bu I'm not able to do that manually, since the zoom level is not perfectly the same across the different maps.
