Should check the letterbox more often. Old family friend sent a little note with an old poem my mum wrote about the sea. She'd kept it for decades, bless her.

Always a joy seeing mum's tiny neat writing. And it's wonderful having a reminder of how mum passed on her strong love of the sea to me. #poem #ocean

A piece of lined paper dotted with age and a long handwritten poem called Sea Times by my mum. First verse is "Seascape alive with vibrant colours, Shimmering in the light. That unique smell of the sea Invades and permeates my senses. I shut my eyes - LISTEN! The rhythmic dance of the waves Ebb and surge, ebb and surge, Hypnotise and enchant. I'm carried away relaxed, refreshed Locked into this delicious moment."
Last verse of mum's handwritten poem. "I look up - the moment broken. Nobby's Headland imposing against the waves Raucous seagulls fighting over scraps The weather darkens - let's go. One last look, a deep breath of air. Time intrudes. Precious memories - past and present Squirrelled away.

🦑🌊 After 100 years of only studying dead specimens, scientists have finally filmed a living colossal squid in its natural habitat. This juvenile specimen was spotted 600m deep during a Schmidt #Ocean expedition near the South Sandwich Islands.

Adult colossal squids can weigh over 500kg (heavier than a small car!) and reach lengths of 6-7m, making them the heaviest invertebrates known to #science. They lose their transparent appearance as they mature.
