Good news for everyone here who uses Flipboard on Android: you can now connect your Mastodon account and flip through feeds.
Besides seeing posts from Mastodon feeds, you can also boost, like and reply to them from within the Flipboard app. You can also add content from Mastodon to your Flipboard Magazines, and vice versa: share content from Flipboard with your followers on Mastodon.

@miaq this is amazing! Great work by the Flipboard team. I'm so excited to get started.
@yodan Looking into it. The sign-in mechanism for @Pixelfed is different enough from Mastodon that it required us to punt it. We also realized that it'd be better to integrate at the #ActivityPub level than at the API level in the long run.
@gombang @Flipboard @yodan I see #pleroma supports the Mastodon API, so this should in general just work. Can you check your logs to see why creating a client did not work? Would love to work with you to figure out what we need to change on our side to get this to work.
Our ActivityPub integration (eventually) is a different beast but something we are working on in a broader sense.
@gombang We received a generic error back from 'mathstodon.xyz'. I just tried now and it seems to work. Try again?
@greg update: it works now with Pleroma. At least it opens the login page. But it seems CloudFlare settings somehow interfere with the login process. I haven’t seen anything in the logs to explain this, perhaps I have just looked at the wrong place.
Meanwhile I’ve just turned off CloudFlare for now.
@Flipboard whoa, Flipboard still exists? I remember when it was one of those groundbreaking new iOS apps...
@egallager Rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.
New version isn't available in the Play store for me...looking forward to the integration.
@cassandracorvid Hopefully it'll be there soon! It always takes a while for a new app version to propagate.
It's here and looking good!
@cassandracorvid Great to hear!
Security issues, like tracking, etc. with #Flipboard?
@Flipboard is there a whitelist on which servers it can login to? I can't get it to use my private instance, it doesn't even try to load the login screen. It just immediately says "We are unable to login to this mastodon instance. Please check that the provided hostname is correct."
@sam @Flipboard Hi Sam, an engineer, will look into a solution. I'll follow up with you as soon as I know more.
I'm having the same issue with my self-hosted instance. I filed beta feedback several hours ago to point the issue out. Good luck and speedy resolution.
Hi @paul, Thanks for reaching out with the screenshots. I'm escalating this to the team, I hope we can solve it quickly.
Sounds great. Thx
@paul @FlipboardCS Hey Paul, I don't know why, but oldfriends.live was returning a generic error to us when trying to create a client 'FAILURE 1100: mastodon.oauth.create.error mastodon.oauth.create.error'. I just tried now and it worked ok. Try again?
It worked. Replying to you from Flipboard failed, though.
@paul @FlipboardCS Java .... NPE ... we'll get a fix out shortly
Glad you were able to log in
Thanks for the support and communication on this issue.
The beta #Flipboard, #Android #Mastodon integration, looks and feels great.
I was sharing with @mike a bit ago ( https://flipboard.social/@paul@oldfriends.live/110009030351674856 ) that Flipboard is one of the best #newsreader #apps that I can use with my #Parkinsons for #A11y.
So far, I really like 'Flipping' through my Mastodon timeline.
Looking forward to seeing what #dev you have coming down the pike.
Feel free to reach out if you need user input.
@FlipboardCS @sam @Flipboard Hi Sam, we received a generic error from your server, not sure why. We've seen this from a few servers large and small. I tried now and got past that screen to the username/password login. Can you try again?
@greg @FlipboardCS @Flipboard I tried again today on a different device and it seemed to work. You should be doing the OAuth2 login through the browser with a protocol handler for the redirect URI or Chrome Custom Tabs callback API to capture the session key, instead of using an embedded webkit view.
Things like 2FA with a hardware security key don't work in embedded web views, and using the browser also lets the user use their existing login session to authorize your app.
Please see Google's best practices for OAuth2 on Android for more details: https://support.google.com/faqs/answer/12284343

Just confirmed the same issue here. I can't add mastodon.thirring.org. I did try mastodon.social and that worked fine.
@lancetay @Flipboard I checked our logs and it looks like you typed in '@40lancetay@home.social' for the hostname. Please try typing in just 'home.social' and see if that works for you.
@greg @Flipboard Hmmm, odd that, all I did was copy from my profile. Is the 40 a hidden character I wonder? Will try again in a bit, and know that this new #Mastodon feature brought me back to #Flipboard - Thanks!
@lancetay @Flipboard Welcome back! It wants just the hostname, so not the username. Not sure about the 40 .... could be a typo on my part .... '%40' is the hex code for the '@' sign. Just type 'home.social' for the server name when prompted and all should be good now
@greg @Flipboard You are a steely-eyed-missileman. Me not so much, but am in now. Appreciate your help here. Thanks so much Greg!
@Flipboard iOS soon I hope!?!
@ConserveChange We started with iOS just over a month ago! https://about.flipboard.com/inside-flipboard/connect-your-mastodon-account-to-flipboard-and-join-a-federated-future/
@Flipboard Dunno Android, at all, but if the tablet experience compares to iPadOS, you will love this for your art and photog follows.
