Giving @Flipboard another spin, since it’s a big supporter of the #Fediverse. It’s also a survivor…I remember covering it on ReadWriteWeb when it launched (or maybe that was a post by @jon?). Either way, here’s my #InternetHistory mag, if you’re a Flipboard user: https://flipboard.com/@ricmac/internet-history-e041t55qz
@ricmac @Flipboard I don’t think I was on the Flipboard beat right when it came out, but I definitely picked it up and covered it as long as I was there. Anything in the “reading on iPads” category has always been bait for me. And then I ended up working with @miaq later, and now here we all are. Flipboard is intertwined with my destiny.
@jon @ricmac @Flipboard worlds crashing and colliding into one gorgeous nebula (lol stick with me on that analogy).
Jon was my first manager at Burning Man (when will they join the fediverse?!)
@miaq @ricmac @Flipboard Yeah @evan was recently asking this question. I was unable to pick my head up off of my desk for days afterwards.
@jon @miaq @ricmac @Flipboard it's a matter of when, not if!
@evan @miaq @ricmac @Flipboard Well, that is definitely true from the point of view I always assumed when liaising with participants who wanted software things to happen, which was, “Your best bet is to make it, go viral for it, get everyone using it, and then we’ll have to go along with it.”
@evan @miaq I might have spoken too soon https://journal.burningman.org/2024/04/black-rock-city/participate-in-brc/recentering-the-heart-of-brc/
@jon @miaq Anyway, here's the plan:
1. Set up some kind of multihoming Mastodon service.
2. When the themecamp listing comes out, make one instance for each theme camp, like <campname>.camp.social. Hopefully this is cheap!
3. Invite the listed contact to their instance (do the listings still have a contact email?).
4. They can invite their campmates, moderate the instance, etc.
5. <fediverse intensifies>
