Another classic, incisive post from @mmasnick Re: Elon’s supposed thermonuclear lawsuit against Media Matters:
“So… within the span of about 2 to 3 pages we are told that Elon Musk and exTwitter are passionate supporters of free speech that allow “all viewpoints” to be shared and that Musk is filing this lawsuit to force Media Matters to take down speech that he admits is absolutely true, but where he doesn’t like how they portrayed things.”
@mike @mmasnick
People forget Musk has #Aspergers. He even praised #SNL when they invited "their first person with Asperger's to host the show."
People with Asperger's (a form of #autism) have difficulty understanding normal human interaction. They feel the need to boil every social situation down to a binary equation, but fail to apply that same logic outside of social interaction.
Someone with Asperger's has no business running a "Social Media" website (particularly one as big as Twitter.)
@MugsysRapSheet @mike 1. "Aspergers" is generally a disfavored term these days. 2. I believe he is still self-diagnosed, so I'm not sure it's true. 3. Blaming his failures at managing a social media site on the unproven claim that he might be on the spectrum is... not great?
@MugsysRapSheet
I’m pained by your comment. It uses the same type of stereotypes and oppressive language usedagainst women, Black, disabled, LGBTQ+, and other people.
Autistics vary in our abilities, just like everyone else. I invite you to consider how different Dan Ackroyd, the first autistic SNL host, and Elon Musk are.
I offer this as a resource where you could begin to learn something besides stereotypes: https://coda.io/@mykola-bilokonsky/public-neurodiversity-support-center/i-want-to-be-an-ally-103
@maddilynSix
I have not described any stereotypes. If taken pains to recognize there is a wide range of behavior among Autistics.
But your refusal to acknowledge there are commonalities that we can recognize, is foolish.
It's like insisting "a woman can lift as much weight as a man" when even the best female power-lifter has never beat the best male power-lifter.
There are "high functioning" Autistics (I've never heard Dan Ackroyd is autistic, but that would definitely prove my point.)
@MugsysRapSheet I’d like to inspire you to learn about autism and have you as an ally, not an antagonist. I’ve handed you a resource - what harm is there in learning? In challenging one’s preconceptions?
@maddilynSix
Responders to this thread have acknowledged Musk has autism. They've acknowledged "there's a spectrum" of symptoms/traits among people with autism.
The sole complaint appears to be that I have identified a section of that spectrum as "Aspergers".
@MugsysRapSheet I see you are trolling.
@MugsysRapSheet @mike @mmasnick I’m going to assume you’re not autistic, since almost no one who is still uses the term Asperger’s. It’s discontinued as a diagnosis, and the name refers to the nazi who decided which autistic people were “functional” not to get sent to the gas chambers.
And as an autistic person, your excuses for Elon are bullshit. I am perfectly capable of understanding racism, and the downsides of allowing nazis and antisemitism into your spaces. He is too.
@MugsysRapSheet bullshit. You 100% said he could not understand because he is autistic.
@mike @mmasnick I created a couple of new accounts for new products and services. Zero followers; yet the default feed immediately showed me “news” like Bill Gates is being arrested for “Epsteine” crimes and other conspiracy theories. Worse, I’m getting notifications on my less than 30-day account that is full of questionable-right-extremist-leaning crap. This is what new users experience!!!???
