The last 10 days have been a whirlwind for the #fediverse. Important new versions of @mammoth and @ivory launched. Wordpress and Tumblr reaffirmed their commitment to ActivityPub. And Threads and Flipboard began to federate. What does this all mean for the fediverse? How will moderation work? Who will be next to federate?
I asked @Gargron the founder and CEO of Mastodon.
Check out this very special interview which notably is hosted on our #PeerTube instance.
@seanbala @mammoth @ivory @Gargron yes just stood up our #peertube instance today. I love the platform and think it's an excellent way for content creators, publishers and companies to host and federate their own videos instead of only relying on YouTube.
Mastodon provides the discovery through the community. PeerTube provides the hosting and tools. An awesome combination.
@mike Video isn't playing for me. Just keeps loading. Just thought you'd want to know since the instance is so new.
@Mrfunkedude Looking into it. What browser or app are you using? cc @greg
@Mrfunkedude @mike wow thanks for the report. Do the other videos work ok for you?
@Mrfunkedude @mike should be fixed now …. friggin’ CORS …. always bites me
Hi Mike,I don't know if it's just my issue, but I can't see the video.Anyway, I didn't know you had also set up Peertube. Excellent!
@luca yes we had a lot of traffic to that new instance so we adjusted. should be working now
@indistinct_chatter
I've got Activity Pub working on WordPress.com
@mike It's not playing back on Firefox!
@vida_latina we had to adjust for the amount of traffic we were seeing. should work now
@mike Hey, thanks for replying! I appreciate that!
@jontromans @mike @mammoth @ivory @Gargron John Mastodon only gives interviews with bards and poets
@mike Downloaded the pod. Looking forward.
@mike
So far I've had well maintained posts in my timeline, rarely have to block anyone. Recently I saw for the first time that in the German part of the Fediverse the same post is published again and again under different accounts at Mastodon instances+wordpess. Something I had never experienced before. Maintaining your own timeline and who you follow with even more research and fact-checking could now also increase here... That's the downside of reach.
@mike
I agree with you.
Things are in constant development with the associated changes.
I think the moderation teams of the instances will have even more to do in the near future until the new services are developed.
At this point, a big thank you to all the #moderators in Fediverse
