@DM_Zeppelin Coming from an old-school background, it seems that 5e players are looking for answers based on numbers on their character sheet rather than their own creation.
But, this may be a matter of what you're used to more than what's 'better' or 'worse.'
In the end, other than Passive Perception, the player still has to ask, "Can I make an Investigation check on that strange-looking chest in the corner?"
He really has a "casually looks into your soul, then promptly forgets what were we talking about¿"

It's True Neutral Bards.
Because they strive to bang everything and everyone.
Just to keep the balance.
The biggest thing I take from this article is that the power creep is real. Down the road, if #WOTC truly plans to keep the #5E framework for future #DnD editions, they're just gonna have to add more and more, beef up classes to be more powerful than the last version. I suspected this was the direction the game was going but hoped otherwise (like, maybe lessons were learned with 3.5). I thought maybe there would be some kind of better innovation to make playing the new version enticing. But, nope. It is what it is... oh well. Started these Frostgrave Gnolls in 2021. Table ready (not competition) as part of my chaotic evil horde for months but haven’t been fielded in battle. None of my #Pathfinder #CastlesAndCrusades #5ednd #ForbiddenLands #SoloRoleplaying campaigns have seen any gnoll/wolfkin. Began by emulating hyaena colours. Got bored fast, went full doggo for these boys. Each one is easily identifiable this way. Reaper gnoll archer and Chainmail demonic gnoll tower above my doggo mook buddies. #minipainting
