Stunning images of the journey of the Sunrise III telescope taken by IRIS-2 a video and imaging instrument built by a Spanish team of enthusiastic amateur astronomers, engineers, and technicians.

The balloon-borne telescope traveled from Sweden to Canada more than 6,500 km at an altitude of about 40 km in six days.

15th cycle of the #BEXUS program completed with the launch from #ESRANGE of the 2nd #balloon mission of the 2024 program.

Mission BEXUS 34 was sent aloft at 13:47 UTC carrying onboard SVAROG, RETINA, SMART, SPICY & STORMDUST experiments developed by students from UK, Italy, Portugal, Germany & Poland.

BEXUS allows universities and colleges across Europe to carry out #scientific & #technological experiments on two balloons that each year, transport up to 20 experiments built by students.

Today was launched from #ESRANGE the 1st #balloon mission of the 2024 #BEXUS program.

Mission BEXUS 35 was sent aloft at 7:53 UTC. carrying onboard ARESONUS, CHAOS, CURiE and HEIMDAL experiments from German, Polish and Danish students

The initiative allows students from universities and colleges across Europe to carry out #scientific & technological experiments on two balloons that each year, transport up to 20 experiments designed and built by student teams.

Early on, mission 741NT, the qualification flight of the 60 million cubic feet balloon transporting onboard the BOOMS experiment for detecting microburst has been terminated at about 15:55 UTC.

Landing occurred 16:40 UTC southeast of the small community of Taloyoak, in the Boothia Peninsula, Kitikmeot Region of Nunavut, Canada.

Total flight time was 3 days and 2 hours.

Mission 740N, the NASA balloon transporting onboard the SUNRISE III Solar Telescope has been terminated at 18:20 UTC today.

Payload is probably on the ground now in a spot located east of Fort Good Hope, a charter community in the Sahtu Region of the Northwest Territories, Canada.

Total flight time was 6 days and 15 hours.

As of as 16:00 UTC on July 16th, 2024 this is the location of the two balloons in flight of the NASA balloon campaign in ESRANGE.

BIG60 is chasing down SUNRISE III despite the difference of almost three days between launches. That's due to the speed the BIG60 gained flying at 156 kft against the 120 kft average altitude of SUNRISE III.

The Solar telescope mission will be terminated in the next few hours.
