(fascinating that there are no electronics in these things, it's all just mechanical, temperature activated contacts and a mechanical timer, plus a motor... big control system with no microprocessors. If all the conditions are met -- below low temp, below max temp, no blown fuse -- then the circuit is complete, and there is power to the gas/igniter circuit. If conditions not met -- max temp sensor too hot, low temp sensor above threhold -- it doesn't fire off the igniter). No CPU cycles involved. #random #dryer #pondering

Early morning pondering:

At least in the USA, if someone behind you is driving too close, people often say someone is on their tail.

I’m guessing “tail” is short for “tailpipe”, and that it isn’t instead an offensive or derogatory term.

So what do we call this phenomenon if you are driving an EV? 🧐

A whole new lexicon may have to be built for operating sustainable vehicles!

I am boggled by the complexity and scale of academic journal publishing.

There are at least 15,500 unique _publishers_.

There are at least 116,597 peer-reviewed journals published by those publishers.

There are at least 169 million articles.

But filtering out 'bad' publishers, or 'bad' journals isn't the solution.

Quality is and always was highly variable between articles within the same journal &/or same publisher.

Am I the only one who has some aesthetic * choices which definitely affect if you trust a person ?

Example - anyone who wears a baseball cap with a ~ completely straight brim ~ makes me nervous.

Don't know why but it's quite deep seated ?

Just me ?

[* Choices people can make about how they look, not physical characteristics they have no control over ]

I have been pondering a lot of which Clan parade scheme to paint a few Medium and Light 'Mechs. Those need a home that isn't the 3rd Falcon Talon Cluster.

I want something recognizeable, but not necessarily Wolf/Beta that came first to mind. Maybe some Blood Spirit/Alpha in sandy tan w/ red highlights?

While flip-flopping I've brush-primed a bunch, and I still have a full Binary of minis untouched from the Clan KS 😅 Decisions, decions...

How do I write a test to check if a random number generator is
working?

Context: I need something cross-platofrm that access system CSPRNGs (arc4random, bcyprt (on win), etc).

I can test local on a mac that it behaves sanely, but on windows (running as a github action), I want a few quick tests to check that it as least not all the same number repeated :)

But something a bit cleverer :)

I feel like my relationship to textures are changing.

I've just made a bunch of patterns that barely use them and it was refreshing?

What I mean is, I'm trying some different things and I don't feel a need to bash a bunch of my photographed textures on top of it. Plus I've had the chance to try some traditional mediums I've never done before, which I might do deep with Pattern Book V3 or V4. Doing a Kid-A if you catch my drift.

Anyway, Pattern Book V2 now has fifty-four patterns rather than forty-five, three more Verdant pieces (more florals), three more Retriever pieces (more dogs) and three more demos.

I often wonder why pan bottoms are essentially flat and allow the heat to move right to the sides, up and away...

If they put some ribs there - sure - the heat would still overflow to the sides, but it would not be so fast and more than likely - we could run at lower temps... hence saving money for the heat source.
