Happy 510th Birthday to Sir Thomas Smith, the brilliant scholar, statesman, diplomat, and educator. It is no exaggeration to say that Shake-Speare would not have existed without him. I will have more to say about Sir Thomas, soon.
Wasn't expecting to have another post ready this year, but these birds were making too much noise, I had to shut them up so I could concentrate. Presumably the last post for 2023. Next year though, stay tuned.

Four hundred years ago the First Folio of my collected plays was published. Three years ago I almost got my hands on one. Almost.
I wrote a lot of heptameter as a lad, but not much once I outgrew it. There’s some in the play within the play in MND, if you listen.

A few lines by an old Roman (originally), relevant for the day. When I was a teenager I spent a lot of time inside this long poem by Ovid. On the blog is a short excerpt from the version I lived with.
I was an ex-poet in 1623 when the First Folio of my plays was published. It needed some corrections, and Jonson rewrote his preface.
