Then, we discussed and tried out various contemporary music information retrieval methods with a special focus on accompanying #harmonies (aka #chords).

The first method to come up was “Automatic chord recognition” (#ACR), a method that scientists have worked on for over 25 years.

A nice summary of this ongoing research (with the most significant challenges identified) can be found in this 5-year-old article => archives.ismir.net/ismir2019/p

#surveillance. #ACR

"By understanding what viewers watch and engage with, marketers can make decisions on content recommendations to create bespoke advertising placements. They can also track advertisements that lead to purchases.

But the most disturbing part is the potential for exploitation. In the wrong hands, sensitive information gathered through ACR could be exploited or misused, which may result in security risks or, at worst, identity theft.

Because ACR operates clandestinely in the background, many of us aren't even aware of its active presence each time we're enjoying our favorite shows. Opting out of using ACR is complex and sometimes challenging. Navigating through your TV settings might take several dozen clicks to protect your privacy better.

If you, like me, perceive this feature to be intrusive or unsettling, there's a way to dismiss this data collection feature on your smart TV. It might take some patience, but below is a How-To list for five major brands demonstrating how to turn off ACR."

ZDNET · How to disable ACR on your TV (and why you shouldn't wait to do it)By Chris Bayer

Holy fuck you Samsung. This ACR shit has been turned on for my TV for years. Two images processed every viewing second to target ads for us for years now. I consider myself fairly tuned into this sort of abuse but fuck me, this one went over my radar. It has finally been disabled.

Drop everything now and see this article for how to disable it on your TV.

Adobe’s Promising Generative AI Tools Have Room to Grow for Photographers

‘When Adobe debuted the Firefly-powered Generative Remove tool in Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw in May as a beta feature, it worked well much of the time. However, Generative Remove, now officially out of its beta period, has confusingly gotten worse in some situations’

I just finished an A Certain Ratio deep dive. Great discography! I couldn't get into the late 80s stuff a while back, but it was worth it to persevere and get to the 2020s era. This is from their 2024(!) album of the same name. It's no "Flight" but it's twisted indie pop all the same. #acr #acertainratio #factoryrecords #postpunk #indiepop
