I write a sub-genre, but struggle to find similar books. I instead recreate it via a collection of genre’s. Partly, this is many books are outside my budget, & our new library thinks fantasy only equals epic.

So, strangely enough, I don’t read a lot of fantasy.

Instead, I read romantic suspense, women’s fiction, mystery, romance, historical, & historical fantasy. I enjoy what I read, but I don’t find what I write.

terse vs. flowery

There aren’t rules.

It depends on genre, circumstances, the POV character, & a wealth of other factors.

I write what fits the moment. It would be simplistic to say that flowery fits romantic moments & terse is better suited to action, which might be what this question is getting at.

I guard against writing too sparse or using purple prose, nor do I draw attention to the writing. I draw attention to the story.
