Santuario de la Virgen de Jaraba
The #convent was founded in 1660 and handed over to the English nuns of the Order of Saint Savior or Brígidas who arrived in Lisbon in 1594, fleeing #HenryVIII Construction on the #baroque building began in 1661. The earthquake of 1755 caused considerable damage to the convent.
Religious orders were abolished in 1832, but the #nuns remained in the convent until 1872, and the church was closed in 1873.
The #church was reopened for worship in 1932. #lisboa #portugal #artandarchitecture
