Tilting saints has meanings two - it could refer to saints askew. But "tilting at" could also be our purpose: challenge the holy.

This is a conceptual album based on the work of René Girard, and infused with the emotions I was wrestling with during an extremely difficult time. Having been scapegoated and humiliated beyond any tolerance, I found myself needing a sacrifice to my fury. Whilst reading 'Violence and the Sacred' I came to understand that the primal part of me that demanded revenge was blind like the bull that charges towards the flag, thinking it the enemy. The violence I've poured into this project was enough to placate the basic beast within.
Despite this album's personal nature, the themes also transcend me as an individual, as this primal mechanism as described and examined in Girard's writings he finds to be ubiquitous across world histories, cycling endlessly.

And here's the results of the mp3 glitching script (https://reillyspitzfaden.com/posts/2025/04/databending-part-3/) played with the MuBu concatenative synthesis tools in Max/MSP
I'm analyzing the file based on transients, sorting the segments according to loudness (Y axis) and average frequency of the spectrum (X axis), then playing through those segments using those groupings

I added a batch script so I can take in a bunch of folders of .wav files, use ffmpeg to convert them to mp3 (and try out different bitrates), glitch them, re-encode those as .wav (easier to work with), and then clean up all the intermediate mp3s.
