Scientists led by a team from the University of Copenhagen in Denmark have found a "strong link" between Western-style diets and neurodevelopmental conditions, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The researchers' analysis also "identifies specific nutrients and foods that could serve as the foundation for improved dietary guidelines and preventative strategies," says food scientist David Horner. ScienceAlert · Maternal Diet in Pregnancy Linked to Child's Risk of Future DisordersScientists led by a team from the University of Copenhagen in Denmark have found a "strong link" between Western-style diets and neurodevelopmental conditions, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

@ScienceDesk @ScienceAlert it could also just be that that adhd is genetic (cause) and mothers with adhd tend to have bad diets (corelation)

@Careerfromhome @ScienceDesk @ScienceAlert Nah that's too rational. We are, of course, dealing with people who refuse to allow facts and logic to interfere with their narrative.

@ScienceDesk @ScienceAlert So now we're back to "it's a bad thing that needs to be fixed"? When I was young ADHD was explained as bad parenting and too much sugar - neither of which were true for me. And yet, here I am.

@ScienceDesk @ScienceAlert

oh is this one of those poor people can't afford good food so let's blame them studies?

@ScienceDesk @ScienceAlert Holy fuck. This is so problematic, I don't even know where to start.

Well, I start with one simple point.

In this case, autism prevalence would be higher in Western countries. The highest prevalence to date was extracted from health care provider data in Korea.

And I will celebrate the day, when "the mother's behaviour is to blame" will be counted as a red flag for biased science instead of being widely publicized.

@Mela @ScienceDesk @ScienceAlert my parents thought so as well, and then they had me .....

@ScienceDesk @ScienceAlert So it was the refrigerator mothers after all. They had stored bad food in it, innit.

Have their skulls been measured? 🤡

@ScienceDesk @ScienceAlert it would have been interesting to read what exactly is called a "strong link" among numerous potential biases. Unfortunately the original article is behind a paywall.

@ScienceDesk To the tune of Drunken Sailor (swearing below because my mother ate a steak while she was pregnant so I have no impulse control): 🎶🎵What the fuck is a western diet?
What the fuck is a western diet?
What the fuck is a western diet?
Haiti's west of Denmark🎶🎵

@ScienceDesk

My bullshit antenna went up so quickly that I got a sore neck. I think I'll wait for it to be reproduced.
