Dear @Mer__edith and the the amazing @signalapp team,

After the last update, the Signal "desktop app" is requiring us to launch the mobile app - however, many of us do not have the Android or any other "mobile" version of the Signal app any more.

We are a large (by our standards) group of #Linux phone users, and your "desktop" app is our "mobile" app : )

Our previous phones on which #SignalApp was initially activated was an Android or Apple device and we have since then completely migrated to #Linuxphones. Some of us may have registered Signal on #signalcli, Flare, #Molly, Signal Android in #WayDroid, etc.

The #mobileLinux community is growing - we have members spanning a good number of projects and devices, e.g.
- @purism #Librem5 and #LibertyPhone running #Debian-based #PureOS #GnuLinux, #Alpine-based #PostmarketOS or #Mobian,
- @PINE64 #Pinephone and PP Pro running #ManjaroARM, #SailfishOS, etc.
- @furilabs #FLX1 running #Droidian-based #FuriOS,
- a wide variety of Android phones (including OnePlus 6, Google Pixel 3, #Fairphone 4 & 5) running #Alpine-based @postmarketOS ,
- @volla , #Fxtec and #Brax3 devices running #UbuntuTouch by @ubports,
- devices running @mobian which is part of #Debian project, etc.

[Apologies to any project I may have failed to include - you are all appreciated]

@The_Caretaker, the problem is not really software or Linux, rather than hardware vendors not providing or making it easy to include drivers outside of the Android ecosystem.

I can suggest PostmarketOS or Droidian if you want to run Linux on your phone. Else look for ROMs or projects based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP).

@AnimeAndVisial well my #PocoF1 lasts about 8 hours per charge, so you shouod probably carry a power bank like I did. There are also some quirk peculiar to my phone like not being able to receive calls on suspend and no camera drivers, but if you get an actual designed-for-Linux phone like the #PinePhone or #Librem those are not issues (besides maybe the battery life)

If you don't need full mainline, @praveen can probably tell you more about the #Droidian based #FuriPhoneFLX1

Do you use #Debian on your mobile (Purism Librem 5, PinePhone, Volla phone or an old android model like One Plus 3 etc)?

Or would you like to switch from #andoid / #ios to an OS that is developed in a more decentralized /community driven and caring for our privacy and freedoms ? Much like how GNU/Linux on laptops/servers/PCs.

There are efforts like #Mobian and #Droidian but we need to raise some funds so we can implement some missing crucial features.

A few months ago, a person started helping me with my #Droidian port for #Vayu (Poco X3 Pro). In fact now I'd say I'm the one helping and all the work is done by them.

Lately I learned they moved to live in the mountains several years ago, has no electricity, no pc or laptop, only android device, bluetooth keyboard and a solar panel. They used debian chroot on the phone for development stuff.

Linux and all this tinkering mindset truly brings me together with the most interesting people.

Decided to place an order for the FLX1 phone by Furilabs, its not a mainline device and honestly based on who is making it probably never will but it is a targeted halium device by one of their contributors and will be running a droidian fork by one of the main droidian developers. I've talked with some of the droidian developers before and its interesting to see how this will perform based on who i know is working on it.
