Schon mal #deltachat in Betracht gezogen?

Ubuntu on phones now receive initial VoLTE support

If you are using one of the supported Ubuntu Phone devices, such as a Volla 22 (contains a MediaTek Helio G85 SoC) or a Fairphone 5 (contains a Qualcomm QCM6490 SoC), you can now use VoLTE on your device.

The necessary modifications for both SoC vendors have been added to both the Noble Numbat version and the Focal Fossa version so that VoLTE works on these devices that have Ubuntu Touch installed. However, for other phones, such as Xiaomi and Google Pixel phones, it’s on the developer who created the port to modify it so that it works with VoLTE.

While they have tested the functionality with both high-quality voice calls and SMS messages, they have reported issues when working with MMS. In the status bar, if your phone shows VoLTE, this means that you can have high-quality voice calls.

In order to try out VoLTE support, you must make sure that:

  • your phone is running the latest version of Ubuntu Touch,
  • your phone supports VoLTE, and
  • your carrier and your cellular plan support VoLTE.

@ajsadauskas @JessTheUnstill @tomiahonen yes, and to add insult to injury #Mozilla didn't even wanted to sell people like @fuchsiii or me a #FirefoxOS device, with the only one being "launched" in the #EU being a #SimLock'd & #NetLock'd #prepaid phone in #Spain one could only attain in-store with all the "#KYC" nonsense they had, demanding a legal address in Spain back then.

And #nerds like myself are far from the "#consoomer #Normies" for whom stuff that isn't on shelves at Staturn/MediaMarkt, BestBuy, Walmart, ... doesn't exist. I'm used to importing #tech that I want!

Dear @Mer__edith and the the amazing @signalapp team,

After the last update, the Signal "desktop app" is requiring us to launch the mobile app - however, many of us do not have the Android or any other "mobile" version of the Signal app any more.

We are a large (by our standards) group of #Linux phone users, and your "desktop" app is our "mobile" app : )

Our previous phones on which #SignalApp was initially activated was an Android or Apple device and we have since then completely migrated to #Linuxphones. Some of us may have registered Signal on #signalcli, Flare, #Molly, Signal Android in #WayDroid, etc.

The #mobileLinux community is growing - we have members spanning a good number of projects and devices, e.g.
- @purism #Librem5 and #LibertyPhone running #Debian-based #PureOS #GnuLinux, #Alpine-based #PostmarketOS or #Mobian,
- @PINE64 #Pinephone and PP Pro running #ManjaroARM, #SailfishOS, etc.
- @furilabs #FLX1 running #Droidian-based #FuriOS,
- a wide variety of Android phones (including OnePlus 6, Google Pixel 3, #Fairphone 4 & 5) running #Alpine-based @postmarketOS ,
- @volla , #Fxtec and #Brax3 devices running #UbuntuTouch by @ubports,
- devices running @mobian which is part of #Debian project, etc.

[Apologies to any project I may have failed to include - you are all appreciated]

This is some bs. If AOSP development is made less publicly accessible it does NOT " simplify things for developers" but rather it hinders it for de-googled privacy respecting ROMs and their device ports. The need for continued and ramped up efforts developing alternative mobile OS's, like Ubuntu Touch, Sailfish OS, Droidian, Mobian, Postmarket, etc. is even more apparent with this move by Google.

Ars Technica · Google makes Android development private, will continue open source releasesBy Ryan Whitwam

in an attempt to achieve the highest app compatibility known to man, i ended up writing a daemon that allows to install, configure and run #UbuntuTouch applications on our beloved #flx1 and it actually turned out pretty nice.

this is yet another service/client setup where now the store server is refactored to work alongside android-store (used to install android apps) to lower memory usage and the client is a #GNOME software plugin
