Nice interior, but strong takeaway vibes: even if empty you are usually asked to order at the machines, not at the counter.

Has internet/ Wifi, but only if you leave your telephone number with the provider.

OUT NOW: Lowtek’s ‘Parasite Pack’ New For… Nokia N-Gage?

In a move that’s could be genius – or sheer madness (or possibly both, it’s increasingly hard to tell these days), Dundee-based Lowtek Games has announced that its Parasite Pack bumper games compendium, has hit the ultimate mobile games console – the Nokia N-Gage.

Yes, you read that correctly. The N-Gage. Nokia’s quirky, taco-shaped-side-talking-not-quite-the-iphone mobile gaming device that did not transform the mobile games market into the global behemoth that we know and love today.

The Parasite Pack brings Lowtek’s NES trilogy – FLEA!, FLEA! 2, and Tapeworm Disco Puzzle – to the N-Gage. While technically running via emulation, these games have been lovingly (or perhaps stubbornly) redesigned to fit the N-Gage’s portrait screen. Expect 1:1 pixel aspect ratio and button remapping, although Lowtek, in their infinite wisdom, “recommend the default.” Because why make it easy?

In what’s being hailed as a momentous occasion (by Lowtek, at least), this release marks the first complete-in-box (CIB) N-Gage title in nearly 20 years. So, collectors, you can finally dust off those N-Gages and prepare to relive the glory days…

To further enhance the nostalgia (or the absurdity, depending on your perspective), Lowtek has even created ads in the style of the original UK N-Gage marketing campaigns – and because they’re clearly committed to this bit, Lowtek even did a photoshoot in some of the original N-Gage ad locations around Glasgow. Because, you know, why not?

Why the N-Gage?

The burning question, of course, is “Why?” According to Lowtek, the answer is simple: “Because we can and we want to help grow the N-Gage homebrew community, much like the other retro systems have done recently.” So, there you have it. Logic.

What You Get:

For the brave souls who decide to take the plunge, the “Parasite Pack” includes:

  • Game case with laser-cut foam insert (because presentation is key, even for the N-Gage)
  • Game card with holographic sticker (for that authentic 2003 feel) containing the games, wallpapers, ringtones, and the original NES ROMs.
  • 8-page full-colour manual (because reading is fundamental)
  • End seal holographic strip (for that all-important unboxing experience)

This first run will be limited to 100 copies. Price: a trifling £35. So, if you’re an N-Gage collector, a lover of the bizarre, or just want to own a truly unique piece of gaming history, you’d better act fast.

Lowtek Games has certainly delivered something… unexpected. Whether it’s a stroke of genius or a descent into madness is up for debate. But one thing’s for sure: they’ve made the N-Gage relevant again.

Continuing training events around #RCT methods started with the SPR #Dundee Methods Workshop (2021), I'll offer a primer for planning randomised studies of psychotherapeutic interventions.

Jan Boehnke A primer for planning randomised studies of psychotherapeutic interventions Studies involving randomisation are an integral part of strategies for the evaluation of (causal) effects of therapeutic strategies and interventions. This workshop will present the key elements and practical steps for planning, developing, conducting, and reporting randomised studies of psychological interventions. The core logic and statistical arguments for an experimental study of a psychological intervention will be briefly revisited to clarify when an experimental study (and which type of such a study) is indicated. The main part of the workshop will focus on how to plan, design, and report such a study, including formal requirements to conduct a high quality study (e.g., trial registrations, ethical requirements). We will discuss the use of international guidelines as well as how and when to prepare protocols, statistical analysis plans, and/or registered reports. The workshop is built around the experience from multiple published trials by the presenter and is planned for Q&A phases to tailor the content to the audience. The aim of the workshop is to provide participants with the tools to assess published randomised studies of psycho-social interventions and the steps and resources needed to develop their own study.

I am really sorry that I am not able to provide a description that captures even a glimpse of what is depicted here.
