Does the large button initiate a large volume flush (and the small button the water-saving small-volume flush) or does the size of the buttons reflect their relative importance - a nudge to the user to choose the larger, water-saving, button not the smaller?

Thank you, thank you, Brownsword Centre staff for your handwritten sign clarifying the issue and bringing me solace.

Good Morning, all

I am indebted to the Royal United Hospital in Bath for their excellent healthcare and compassionate hospitality delivered to one very sick bear in January but above all for resolving an enduring perplexity that troubling me for years.

Which button does one depress on the two-button toilet cistern if you want the water-saving flush to operate?

A field-experiment tested whether a brief stress management intervention could have improve police performance in a simulated training exercise for police students. We found self-rated stress was associated with lower observer-rated performance. The "tactical breathing" intervention led to improved performance. The intervention was not associated with perceiving their stress as lower.

I'll be on #sabbatical next academic year (August 2025 - June 2026), and will be able to go on research stays and visits to other labs.

I'm interested in topics related to #DecisionMaking, #Attention, #Teamwork, #HumanFactors, #AppliedPsychology VR/AR/UX, and #CognitivePsychology. Shared projects, data collections, analysis, theoretical work, preparing applications, learning methods or teaching could all be of interest. Or just networking!

Any ideas (or invitations!) for where I could go?

The NASA-TLX (1986) may be the most frequently used #workload measure(>34K citations), but it's often used incorrectly (without pair-wise comparisons / individual weighting). I've made editable Word-files with instructions and materials that should be easier to use, and an Excel sheet for easy scoring. Students have helped me to translated the English version into Dutch, Norwegian, Russian and Ukranian:
