"If you view vaccination as an individual choice and believe that anyone should be able to opt out for any reason at any time, then what you’re saying is that it’s okay to decide not to uphold your end of the social contract; that it’s okay to free-ride off of everyone else who actually did go get vaccinated."

She responds to CDC:

"The truth is, when it comes to public health, there really isn’t such a thing as a 'personal' or 'individual' choice — because every choice we make as individuals has implications for the health of those around us. Framing vaccination as an issue of 'personal choice' disregards the fact that choosing not to get vaccinated ultimately strips other people of their personal choice to stay healthy or to live a normal life."

Caroline Orr Bueno reports that ProPublica contacted the CDC to ask why it suppressed a report warning that the risk of measles is higher in areas near outbreaks where vaccination rates are lower.

CDC responded,

“The decision to vaccinate is a personal one." As Bueno notes, this echoes HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s own language about vaccination.

Immune amnesia: Why even mild measles infections can lead to serious disease later

Getting measles doesn’t confer benefits on the immune system — in fact, it’s just the opposite.
Even a mild case of measles destroys the memory cells that confer resistance on bugs the patient has previously fought, in what doctors call “immune amnesia.”
A measles outbreak has infected nearly 500 people in 19 states, including California. Vaccinations prevent both the measles and the subsequent loss of immune protections.

It's true. It's happened to me in the time before a measles vaccine. I got very ill...Hospitalized. I also went through a series of very painful gamma globulin shots to get some immunity built back up. Don't let this happen to your child...or you.
