“In response, I immediately directed the #LosAngelesCounty Office of Immigrant Affairs to connect with the #Pomona Day Labor Center to ensure those impacted receive the support and resources they need,” ... “While this remains a developing situation, I want to reaffirm my unwavering commitment to ensuring that all residents, regardless of their immigration status, are aware of & can exercise their constitutional rights.”

"A groundbreaking microscope at Harvard Medical School could lead to breakthroughs in cancer detection and research into longevity. But the scientist who developed computer scripts to read its images and unlock its full potential has been in an immigration detention center for two months — putting crucial scientific advancements at risk."

Today's #Resist is about private #ICE prisons. Please copy and paste into the forms on the websites of your members of Congress and share with friends in Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Ohio, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Washington. #ResistOfTheDay

Please schedule time to visit our state's ICE prison to inspect the facility and talk with people being held there. While you plan your visit, please read the 2024 study by Eric Gallant of Seton Hall University, "The Constitutionality of the Privatization of the Prison Industry."

In 2023, 90.8 percent of people detained by ICE were held in private prisons. The ABA notes that private prisons should be the last resort, and that the government should be held accountable for their justification in putting people in the hands of private corporations.

I am asking you to be part of that accountability. The news is full of stories about what people experience in private ICE prisons -- thin mats in cages with no privacy, constant cold temperatures with no way to keep warm, lights on constantly that deny people the ability to sleep. And while doing this, these private companies are earning a profit. CoreCivic earned $68.9 million in profits in 2024, GeoGroup earned $31.9 million.

If you are denied access, please hold a large press conference outside. Congress allocated the money that is allowing these corporations to earn their profits. Congress has a right to see how the money is being spent.

"There’s a reason this administration has started off targeting immigrants. Those in charge are calculating—and have plenty of evidence to back them up on this—that the average American won’t care. Or won’t care enough to do anything. Besides, they’ve been preparing you for this. Go back to some of Trump’s earliest speeches, and you’ll find hateful, xenophobic rhetoric."

"Issuing an order at 1 AM on Saturday is a pretty clear indication that the justices understood that their ruling was, in fact, a matter of life or death. It’s an indication that they knew that the people being herded onto buses in North Texas were being sent to their doom.

This time, this court, which so often hides behind procedural technicalities, refused to let Trump get away with murder."

The Nation · Did the Supreme Court Just Grow a Spine? The court’s ruling ordering Trump not to deport a group of Venezuelan immigrants was an unprecedented rebuke. Are they finally taking back power?

Hermosillo, a 19-yr-old US citizen, was🚨wrongfully incarcerated by IMM authorities in AZ. He was held for 10 days at a privately run IMM det fac, before being released.

He signed the transcript released by DHS because the officer ordered him to "sign everything."

But Hermosillo did not read it, because he cannot read.

#ICE agents only want warm bodies who fit the profile, to detain, & likely deport, to meet their daily quota.

Popular Information · U.S. citizen wrongly detained by Border Patrol says government account is falseBy Judd Legum

Question: If you are not an US citizen, and yet find yourself in the unfortunate position to have to travel to the #USA for a business trip, what _would_ you tell the fascist goons at the border what your purpose for the visit it?

"Visiting for work" seems to be the answer that earns you a quick trip to a concentration camp.

(Note: For me, this is hypothetical - my own department only does business with German-speaking regions. But others might not be so lucky...)

“Evidence suggests that ICE did not transfer Rümeysa (Ozturk) to a Louisiana detention facility due to a lack of bed space in New England, as the government has claimed, but instead in an attempt to hand-pick the courts that will decide her case. These actions raise serious questions about the fairness and integrity of our immigration enforcement system and underscore what is at stake for all of us.” —Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley. #ICE #deportations #legal #deportation #kidnapping #TheSquad #Democrats #resistance #resist
