Governments are doing everything they can to involve this group in democracy again with referendums and participatory budgets. Research by Rosa Kindt shows that this is having an effect: these meetings provide satisfaction and a feeling of being heard, especially among right-wing populist citizens. Kindt's Ph.D. defense will take place on 1 April at Radboud University.

Whew! Got the walks shoveled and husband cleared the alley with his snowblower.
The poor gentleman trying to plow our street was honking his horn and the neighbors refused to look out. So, our street is blocked by a compacted pile of snow because he couldn't get his plow through. He called into the parking police. Hopefully it will get cleared today. #winter #frustrations

The street with snow plowed and left because there are vehicles on both sides of the street and the plow truck can't get through without causing them damage.

These salt-of-the-earth folks possess a certain level of knowledge, yet they seem uninterested in broadening their horizons. However, they expect their opinions, however uninformed, to hold weight on the national stage. At least, that’s how it appears.

The individual whose name they choose to check on the ballot seems to speak volumes about their beliefs and attitudes.

Schumer calls for ‘new election’ in Israel in scathing speech on Netanyahu

Senate Majority Leader #Charles E. #Schumer (D-N.Y.) called for the Israeli government to hold a #new #election in a speech warning that Israel risks becoming an #international “#pariah” under the leadership of Prime Minister Benjamin #Netanyahu and his #right-#wing #cabinet.

Schumer, the highest-ranking Jewish official in the United States and a staunch ally of Israel, said he thinks Israelis understand “better than anybody that Israel cannot hope to succeed as a pariah opposed by the rest of the world” and would choose better leaders if elections were held.

“I believe that holding a new election once the war starts to wind down would give Israelis an opportunity to express their vision for the postwar future,” Schumer said Thursday in a speech on the Senate floor, in remarks that did not set an exact timeline for a new election.

Schumer, who opened his speech saying he felt “immense obligation” as a Jewish American to speak, stressed that the outcome of that election would be up to the Israelis — not Americans.

The call, from one of Congress’s strongest supporters of Israel, marks the clearest signal to Israel yet that #frustrations over Netanyahu’s handling of the #war in #Gaza are boiling and could even threaten the future of the close relationship between Israel and the United States.

Court Cantrell will not comply

I've been trying to contact "Bryan" ever since to no avail. Today is the last day Etsy would allow me to extend the ship deadline. Since I have heard exactly nothing from him, I canceled the order and refunded his payment.

The bad news is, I'm pretty sure this was a scam.

The good news is, I didn't fall for it.

The depressing news is, this was my first and only order directly through Etsy so far.

To date, this art-selling venture has only put me in the red.

UGH.
